The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has described the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election as a lesson to Nigerians.
Speaking toChannels TVon the telephone on Tuesday, the monarch said the election had shown that the citizens of the country could come together to make national and global impact. “This has taught us a lesson and shown that if we want to do anything in Nigeria, we can do it and do it well. It is also a lesson to all of us that we need to be united; that all Nigerians can move closer and make an impact on the world,” he said.
The Sultan explained that the peace in the country, despite the tension that pervaded the country before the Saturday’s election, had been made possible by all Nigerians. He said, “I have heard so many comments from so many people across the country and some parts of the world. The elections have been very peaceful in most part of the country and I have seen that the voters and electoral officials behaved very well and everything went so smoothly.
The monarch, a member of the National Reconciliation Committee, commended Jonathan for taking the initiative to concede victory and congratulated Buhari.
